The Chamber Political Action Committee is designed to exert a
strong influence in the election of regional and county
officials and local state legislators. The Chamber PAC provides a vehicle to
seek and encourage qualifies candidates who share business viewpoints,
regardless of party affiliation and to provide those candidates with financial
assistance and other kinds of campaign support needed to win an election.
The PAC allows the business community to have a more
significant impact on the political process. Making the PAC
a separate entity depoliticizes the Chamber and allows the Chamber to focus on
policy issues, service and public education.
A Business PAC, The Southland's PAC
The Chamber Political Action Committee was established because local
business had learned that the best time to influence legislation is not on a
crisis-to-crisis basis when bills are introduced or voted on, but
at election time when legislators are being elected.
Business in the Chicago Southland Region have a very real stake in making
sure that business is heard in the county building and the halls of the state
legislature.
Active participation by more regional business people will insure that
governmental policy makers will give a fair hearing to
regional business ideas. It is a way for you to be involved
in the political process without investing a large amount of your time.
Endorsing Pro-Business Candidates and Positions
Each election year the Political Action Committee Board of Directors
determines which candidates and positions should be supported.
Selections are made on the basis of voting records, questionnaires on the
issues, and the candidates' general attitudes towards business
issues affecting the Southland region. Actual dollar
contributions are also based on need.
The most important gift the chamber can bestow is the endorsement of the
Chamber's PAC. The goodwill of the Chicago Southland Chamber is a powerful
force, and the PAC lets the Chamber make a real impact on
politics.

The Chicago Southland Political Action Committee is affiliated with the
Chicago Southland Chamber of Commerce, insuring that business
view points will be heard. Lobbying efforts on behalf of the
Chamber members will continue throughout office holders' elected terms.
