Your Chicago Southland Chamber of Commerce is involved in an exciting
fundraising campaign to support the development of a Third Airport in the
Chicago Southland. We are at a critical point in the airport discussions and
Governor George H. Ryan is moving forward with the land acquisitions for the
inaugural site. Your contribution will make possible our continued efforts in
marketing and lobbying this all important project in our
region.
LACK OF
COMPETITION AT O'HARE WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
The 1996 Government Accounting Office Report, Airline Deregulation: Barriers to
Entry... Concluded that, in 1995, O'Hare's fares were 24 percent higher
than the average fares at 33 "unconstrained large hub" airports.
The 1995 U.S. Department of Transportation report, A Study of the High Density
Rule, concluded that, in 1993, O'Hare users paid $280 million more than
needed, in fares.

O'Hare International Airport is
one of four airports in the country where the Federal Aviation Administration
restricts the number of landing and take-offs during peak hours. (More than 14
hours per day.)
Midway Airport will be at
operating capacity by the year 2000.
By the year 2001, Illinois
Department of Transportation estimates there will be more than 14 million
passengers who can't be accommodated by O'Hare and Midway.
Immediate construction of a south
suburban airport is the only way to solve these problems.
BUILD IT IN THE
SOUTH SUBURBS!
The site in Will
County is the closest feasible location to the Chicago urban area. The site
will be home to the smartest, fastest and most environmentally friendly airport
in the United States.
Advantages of this site are:
A location only 15 miles south
of the city of Chicago.
2.5 million people, who take
more than 3 million air trips annually, live within 45 minutes of the airport
site.
Access to existing road and rail
transportation networks.
Air traffic noise will be
restricted to airport property.
The airport is compatible with
the existing air transportation network in the region, and will have no
negative impact on either O'Hare or Midway.
Now... more than ever... your
support in this effort will help make the difference. Together we can make the
airport a reality.
YES, Our company will make a special
contribution to assure the development of the Third Airport.
