Government Affairs
The Government Affairs Division focuses on
advocacy and legislation affecting the
business community on federal, state, and
regional levels. The division accomplishes
this by: Direct Lobbying Efforts,
Legislative Roundtables, as well as visits
to Cook County Government, the State Capitol
and Washington, D.C.

Goal: Increase effectiveness of the Chamber's Government Affairs program
emphasizing business leadership to improve the economic climate and business
environment of the Chicago Southland.
Objectives:
-
Promote continued improvement to
the transportation infrastructure within the Chicago Southland Region,
including construction of I-355 and Interchange at I-57 and I-294.
-
Actively support legislation and
programs designed to improve rail freight and interstate passenger service in
the region.
-
Lead efforts to educate
business/community/governmental leaders on the need for property tax reform in
Illinois.

Support funding reform for
Public Education in Illinois.

Work with the Illinois Chamber
and other state business associations to support pro-business legislation
affecting the cost of doing business in Illinois on such issues as Workers Comp
and Unemployment Compensation.

Work directly with area
legislators to promote Chamber programs and issues affecting Southland
business.

Plan, organize and host the
Annual State Capitol Visit in Springfield to meet with legislators and key
government leaders on major business issues.

Plan and organize a Washington,
D.C., Fly-In to lobby on Chicago Southland issues.

Support efforts of the Chicago
Southland State Legislative Caucus on business related issues and arrange for
the group to be convened.

Support efforts of the Political
Action Committee.

Support efforts of the Chamber's
Political Action Committee.
