Education Workforce

The Education Workforce Development Division is designed to institute, in cooperation with local colleges, universities and school districts, a positive working relationship between educators and regional business professionals. The partnership's objective is an educated and skilled entry-level workforce in the Southland region..

The division facilitates its mission by producing special events and programs. In addition, the division partners with workforce development service providers to enhance the efforts of the Division. The division provides a full range of workforce development services.

The Education Workforce Development Council meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 8:00am at Chicago Southland Chamber of Commerce headquarters. This council institutes an effective education and workforce development program emphasizing business leadership to improve workforce quality through enhanced education and training. Programs include Junior Achievement, Principal for a Day and Job Shadowing. [Meetings at 8:00 a.m. the fourth Thursday of each month].

Chuck Jenrich, Vice Chairman of the Board

Goal: Institute an effective education and workforce development program emphasizing business leadership to improve workforce quality through enhanced education and training.

Objectives:

  • Continue to be involved in the strategic planning and appointment of members and alternates to the State and County Workforce Investment Boards to assure high quality training and accountable job results in the Southland. 
     
  • Co-sponsor activities that promote Workforce Development.
     
  • Promote increased business knowledge of education and workforce development programs to Chicago Southland Businesses.
     
  • Promote the Student Job Shadowing program in partnership with Southland Education to Careers.
     
  • Work with Governors State University and Education to Career groups to host the Teacher's Summer Business Institute. 
     
  • Support and host  Junior Achievement Academy at Chicago Southland schools.
     
  • Coordinate and promote involvement by area business leaders in the "Principal for a Day" Program.
     
  • Continue to find ways to add to the Chamber Foundation's funding program and assist the Foundation in selecting scholarship recipients.
     
  • Coordinate the "Making Academics Count" Campaign throughout the Chicago Southland to show employers how they can help motivate students to work harder in school.
