FAITH AND WORSHIP
Core to community identity
The diverse nature of the
Southland naturally creates one of the most diverse worship communities in the
region. Each community of the Southland has active churches, synagogues,
mosques and other worship communities that represent the diverse nature of our
region.
Core to each community, the worship communities are actively involved in local
quality of life issues and the betterment of living. Many of our area churches
extend social assistance to those in need and work directly with local and
township agencies to provide for those who cannot.
Great cultural and ethic traditions live within the worship communities of the
Southland. Early pioneers of the region built the churches and synagogues of
our region as they settled, often within ethnic communities in suburban towns
that were essentially rural communities. The influx of city-based church
communities and international diverse communities in the Southland has created
the diverse richness that exists within our towns as well as our faith
communities. The spiritual renewal and fellowship provided by worship
communities of the Southland are part of the glue the holds our communities
together. Many of our faith-based schools are extensions of this community
spirit. Residents of the Southland can find their choice of faith worship no
matter where they reside.
