Nine major hospitals
continue to serve the region from their traditional suburban centers and
extended locations throughout the Southland. Three new hospital locations are
in the works in our new growth areas of the southwest sector. An ever-expanding
network of immediate care facilities dots the region and is expanding with the
southwestern growth of our region. Residents of the entire Southland region
need only dial 911 for emergency assistance.
Large regional hospitals as large as 1,000 beds, State-designated Level I
trauma centers and a network of extensive doctor groups dot the Southland and
provide the finest in health care to area residents.
As one of the largest employers in the Southland region, the health-care
industry provides local high quality care to the entire region. The Chicago
region is blessed with some of the finest hospitals in the world and unlike
some areas of the country, you find major providers in the suburban, as well
as, central city locales. The Southland is privileged to have some of the
finest health care institutions in the region.

local providers and insurance carriers to provide the latest in health care
coverage for employees. The close proximity to health care services allows
employers not only to provide coverage but also ensure that employees value the
local nature of the health services available to them through their plans.
Involved in area business, major health care institutions are active with
Chicago Southland Chamber of Commerce providing a focus to the issues facing
business in today's health care environment.
Unprecedented anywhere in the country is the cooperative consortium of health
care institutions in the Southland that have formalized their partnership via
the Southland Health Care Forum. The Forum addresses the challenges and
opportunities facing health care institutions today. Core to their efforts is
the need for qualified staff. This along with the significant efforts at our
colleges and universities insures that solutions to health care will be found
locally.
