A treasure amid the world's finest

Few regions of the country enjoy a stronger reputation for the arts and culture than Chicago. Some of the world's finest performing arts, museums, galleries, theaters and other cultural institutions function in the Chicago region and all are within a short drive. The Southland region is home to numerous cultural opportunities enjoyed by the entire Chicago area.

Complete with its own symphony orchestra and numerous performing arts groups, the Southland provides local residents with local opportunities for culture and the arts. Major talent in the entertainment field also perform on numerous stages including refurbished classic public theaters, major performing arts centers, local community-based halls and outdoor summer performing arts venues.

The Southland is the cradle of school bands in the United States and has numerous community college and municipal performing outlets for area residents who enjoy the arts as their hobby.


 

Native American pathways, historical trading centers, geological landmarks and the link of the Great Lakes to the Mississippi River system all have histories in the Southland region. The great builders of Chicago drew steel and stone from the manufacturing Mecca that has been the Southland Region. Chicago's first pioneers and Native American cultures have strong roots in the Southland region. Our area features numerous landmarks to the early development of Illinois and the Midwest.

Resident that seek either light-hearted entertainment, the world's finest jazz or performances of long-standing serious art forms will find the Southland full of opportunities along with the convenience to Chicago - one of the leading cultural centers in of the world.
